Tunisia: phosphate production reaches record high

Phosphate production reached 500 thousand tons in January 2017, the highest level recorded since January 2011, said Minister of Energy, Mining and Renewable Energy, Hela Cheikhrouhou.

This result will favor the production this year of an average production of 6 million tons, which has never been reached, for years, “she added in a statement to TAP, on the sidelines of a conference on renewable energy held Thursday in Tunis.

It should be noted that the rate of production of phosphates has often been blocked since January 2011 and has reached the lowest levels, reaching even less than 1 million tons / year, impacting the volume of exports and lowering the turnover of the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG).
