Tunisia: revenues from dates export reach 207.4 MTD

The volume of dates export reached 40,619 tons from October 1, 2016 to January 30, 2017, against 31,325 tons during the same period a year earlier, announced the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries.

Exports of organic dates reached 4,374 tons until January 30, 2017, compared with 4,417 tons in the last season. Export operations of the 2016-2017 harvest are still on to 64 countries in different continents.

Morocco is the first importer of Tunisian dates, with 9,096 tons, ahead of Italy (5,109 tons) and France (3,693 tons). Spain is fourth with 2,576 tons and Malaysia fifth (2,218 tons).

The list of countries importing dates from Tunisia also includes the Netherlands (1,429 tons), Indonesia (1,417 tons), Russia (1,342 tons), Belgium (1,236 tons), the United States (1,113 tons), Libya (1,086 tons) and the United Arab Emirates (1,022 tons).

According to the same source, Tunisian dates are in the lead worldwide in terms of trade value and the fifth in terms of quantities exported.

It is the second exporting sector of the Tunisian agriculture after olive oil and registered record export earnings in the past campaign (2015/2016), worth 473 MTD (export of 110 thousand tons).
