Qatar gives 1 bn dollars to Tunisia to rebalance budget

Qatar has given 1 billion dollars in financial support to Tunisia to help it rebalance its budget, Finance Minister Lamia Zribi has said. The aid was pledged by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the emir of Qatar, at the Tunisia 2020 investment conference last November. Half of the money will be used to pay off an existing credit with Qatar.

The remaining 500 dollars will be deposited in the central bank as a short-term loan. Meanwhile, Development, Investment and International Cooperation Minister Fadhel Abdelkefi and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) on Tuesday signed another funding agreement worth approximately 60 million euros for the construction of 32 bridges in 21 governorates across the country.
