Holidaymakers’ paradise in Tunisia

“Always look on the bright sight of life…” Almost everyone knows this famous scene from the film “Life of Brian”. But what many people don’t realise: Large parts of the film were shot in the Tunisian city of Monastir. Built as a fortress in the year 796, the town became a holy city and pilgrimage site for the religious. Today Monastir is an attractive holiday destination. Its location on the Gulf and beautiful sandy beaches invite you to swap the cold German winter for a few warm summer days. This winter, Tunisair will fly sun-seekers every Sunday from Berlin Schönefeld to the city on the Gulf of Hammamet. The aircraft in use will be a Boeing 737, which will accommodate 126 passengers.

Thanks to its long and wide beaches, Monastir is one of the most beautiful resorts in Tunisia. The gently sloping beaches with their fine sand are perfect for a holiday with children. On the promenade, small shops invite you on a shopping spree or to sample the local delicacies. On top of this, a wide range of sports beckon. Surfing especially is very popular in Tunisia. A new style of surfing was even invented there: beach surfing, a mix of windsurfing and skateboarding. The streets of Monastir are bustling with vibrant life. In the city’s cafes and bars many young people can be found – after all, one fifth of the population are students. Monastir impresses with its juxtaposition of old and modern buildings. Architectural highlights include the Bourgiba Mausoleum with mosque, built in the 1960s, as well as the Ribat Fortress situated on the headland.

Djerba
Also worth a visit is Djerba, the largest island in Tunisia. Located in the south of the country, the island boasts white sand beaches, palm trees and turquoise sea. This winter, Tunisair flies holidaymakers every Wednesday from Berlin Schönefeld to the island on the east coast of Tunisia.
