Tunisian fashion adds glamour to Taiwan’s exhibition

Being half Taiwanese and half Tunisian, Dean feels the urge to foster exchanges of fashion industries between the two countries.

Many Taiwanese people may not be familiar with Tunisia, let alone Tunisian fashion, but people who are interested in the North African country can visit the booth of FFDesigner Magazine, which represents five Tunisian brands at Taipei IN Style this year.

Being half Taiwanese and half Tunisian, Dean, editor of the magazine, feels the urge to foster exchanges of fashion industries between the two countries.

Noting that this is the third time for him to participate in the Taipei IN Style, Dean said that apart from introducing Tunisian designs to Taiwanese people, he will reciprocally bring Taiwanese brands to Tunisia for a fashion week held in May next year.

“Even though the Tunisian fashion industry nowadays is influenced by European trends, you can still find traditional Tunisian elements, such as patterns, preserved in contemporary designs,” said Dean.

As for Taiwanese fashion, Dean thought the techniques used by the textile and fashion industries on the island are pretty advanced and impressive, and that the taste of the Taiwanese customers tend to be similar to that of Japanese people.

Despite the fact that there are some distinctions in terms of styles and trends people usually like in Taiwan and Tunisia, Dean believed that as long as the designs are really cool, people would eventually like them.

The designs showcased in the exhibition are not available on the Taiwanese market now, yet the magazine is trying to put up an online shop for people in the two countries to buy fashion items they appreciate beyond borders.
