UNHCR report details changes in refugee and migrant risky journeys to Europe

A new report released today by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, shows changes in the routes used by refugees and migrants to reach Europe during the third quarter of 2017. “Over the past months, the sea route to Greece has gained more traction, sea arrivals to Italy have reduced and we have seen migrants and refugees using increasingly diversified journeys to reach Europe,” said Pascale Moreau, Director of UNHCR’s Europe Bureau. Tunisian Authorities Rescue 9 Moroccans Off Southeast Coast

Twenty-two immigrants, including nine Moroccans, were rescued off Zarzis, southeastern Tunisia, Tunisian authorities revealed on Thursday. According to a statement by the Tunisian Ministry of Defense, the migrants had left Libyan port of Boukamech to return to the Libyan coast. The migrants are from Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Niger, and Bangladesh, reported Maghreb Arab press (MAP).
