Bulgaria, Tunisia Sign Agreement on Application of Social Security Agreement

Labour and Social Policy Minister Bisser Petkov and Tunisia’s Social Affairs Minister Mohamed Trabelsi have signed an administrative agreement which regulates the application of a bilateral Social Security Agreement, Petkov’s Ministry said.

Effective as of May 1, 2017, the agreement regulates social security for people working in Bulgaria and Tunisia and the procedure for granting and paying pensions to people with contributory service in the two countries. The administrative agreement determines the competent institutions and the procedures for application of the agreement.

The administrative agreement regulates the pension rights of Bulgarians and Tunisians who are working or worked in the other country. Its application will boost bilateral relations in both social affairs and the economy, said Petkov. He added that the document would promote investments between the two countries and would enable their citizens to avail themselves of their pension rights.

Petkov and Trabelsi discussed matters of shared interest, including aspects of the labour market, social security, child protection policies and the integration of people with disabilities. The two ministers exchanged experience and good practices in social dialogue, with an emphasis on cooperation with the trade unions and employer organizations in the formulation of incomes policy.
