Omar Guiga, manufacturer of Tunisian car “Wallyscar” winner of IMF Innovation Contest

Young Tunisian Omar Guiga, who designed and manufactured the Tunisian car “Wallyscar”, is one of the winners of the Arab Youth Campaign on Innovation Contest organised by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and that has targeted young people between the ages of 18 and 35 from the Middle East / North Africa region, TAP report.

The young manufacturer told TAP his factory, located in El Kabaria (south of the capital Tunis), manufactures each year 200 cars that are exported to the French, Portuguese and Spanish markets, besides the Caribbean islands,

“Our company, which currently employs 60 people, can create a thousand more positions over the next few years,” said Guiga, adding that his project has not received any grants or financial support.

“Currently we only rely on funding from our customers which limits our production capacity,” said the young entrepreneur.

Three young people from the Arab region were rewarded in this competition on innovation, organised on the sidelines of the international conference “Opportunities for all: Growth, Employment and inclusiveness in the Arab World” held on January 29 and 30, 2018 in Marrakech, Morocco.

In addition to young Omar Guiga, Afnan Kamel Ali from Jordan and Saeed Abduljalil Alfagieh from Yemen were awarded the same prize.
