Government delegation to visit Gafsa to monitor implementation of agreement on phosphate mining resumption

A government delegation will visit Gafsa next week to monitor the implementation of the agreement concluded between the Government, the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) and MPs from the Gafsa region on the resumption of phosphate mining in Gafsa, announced Minister of Energy, Mining and Renewable Energy, Khaled Kaddour.

The agreement concluded at a meeting held on February 24, 2018 at the Government Palace in Kasbah, the agreement includes a set of measures to improve the living conditions of local citizens and to immediately initiate the implementation of several projects and programmes relating to employment, development, basic infrastructure, agriculture and health.

During a visit to Sfax governorate on Friday, Kaddour welcomed, in a statement to the press, the return to phosphate production at all the sites of the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG). This production currently reaches 12 thousand tonnes.

He added that seven trains loaded with phosphate left the mining basin on Thursday, besides truck loads.
