Tunisia’s parliament votes to end Truth and Dignity Commission

Tunisia’s parliament has voted to end the country’s Truth and Dignity Commission (IVD).
In a plenary session, 68 deputies voted against the decision to extend the mandate of the IVD and two others abstained. No votes for the extension of the mandate have been registered.

Several deputies left the plenary session without voting, including members of the parliamentary bloc of Ennahdha movement and the democratic bloc.

However IVD president Sihem Ben Sedrine said, Wednesday at a meeting with the press, that the law requires the commission to complete the process of transitional justice and to perform the work entrusted to it, saying that “the IVD will continue to fulfill its mission and will complete it on time. ”

The completion of the work of the commission is the starting point for the implementation of a comprehensive programme including institutional reform, she said.
