Tunisia submits « Beauty and the Dogs » for 2019 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film

Kaouther Ben Hania’s feature film “Beauty and the Dogs” will represent Tunisia in the 2019 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, announced the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNCI).

Under the aegis of the CNCI, the committee that met on Sunday, September 16 has selected this film which “meets the eligibility criteria defined by the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

“Beauty and the Dogs” was the only Tunisian film in the running for the national short-listing,” adds the same source.

The CNCI said the nomination of this film to represent Tunisia was unanimously endorsed by the eight members of the committee formed by CNCI Director General Chiraz Laatiri, CNCI Secretary General Slim Dargachi, producer Imed Marzouk, film critic Khemayes Khayati and directors Nouri Bouzid, Jilani Saadi, Salma Baccar and Moslah Kraiem.

This film has been nominated last year to the same committee and was ranked the second favourite, and it is also the only one to compete this year.

The official announcement of the films that will be selected for the final competition (of the Oscars) is scheduled for January 22, 2019.
