3rd edition of Open Startup Tunisia: Bob Dorf trains Tunisian coaches in mentoring

Bob Dorf, the serial entrepreneur, author, a professor at Columbia University NY, is back in Tunis. His visit is part of the 3rd edition of the Open Start-Up Tunisia (OST 2019).

Bob Dorf will provide a two-day training (18-19 September). 40 university professors from 37 institutions in around 20 regions and 10 actors from the Tunisian ecosystem will take part. Bob Dorf will train them to support start-ups and young entrepreneurs.

Bob Dorf is one of the most recognized experts in the field of lean innovation and Customer development. He developed the “Customer Development” methodology with Steve Blank. Together, they published “The Startup Owner’s Manual: The Step-by-Step Guide for Building a Great Company.

A true toolbox, this manual provides each entrepreneur with tailored advice and a specific process to follow to grow their business.

Open Start-Up Tunisia 2019 (OST 2019) is a national competition of high potential students. They come from more than 70 Tunisian university institutions of various disciplines.

This strategic choice of multidisciplinarity constitutes the particularity as well as the richness of the programme.

OST is the result of the public / private partnership involving Columbia Engineering and Columbia Business School, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research through its 4C networks. In addition, the US Embassy, BIAT Foundation, Africinvest, Columbia Global Centers and GoMyCode are involved.

OST has several primary objectives. First, it is about encouraging entrepreneurial intent and innovation. Second, train students in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Finally, foster greater openness of the university on the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The competition program started with the launch of the call for applications from April 6 to May 23, 2018. The selection interviews took place in June 2018. The results were announced on July 8, 2018.

3-day Bootcamp gathering stakeholders from the Tunisian ecosystem and Columbia University (NYC) will take place on 21, 22 and 23 September 2018.

A mentoring of the teams throughout the program by an academic coach and a practising coach will follow him. October 21, 2018, is the scheduled date for the semifinal

The Mentoring of the finalist teams by MBA students from Columbia Business School will take place from November 2018. Besides, a pitching with the Tunisian teams in the final will be organized. January 18, 2019, will be the date of the final.

An immersion trip of the winning Tunisian team and participation in the Columbia Venture Competition in April 2019 are also scheduled.
