Bizerte hosts first Blue Economy Forum

The resort city of Bizerte hosted Saturday the first edition of the Blue Economy Forum which opened in the presence of Tunisian and foreign experts in sea and ocean resources management and protection.

The blue economy consists in the sustainable management of water resources and ocean protection for present and future generations.

Researcher Kais Hammami said that the Tunisian Institute for Strategic Studies (French: ITES), which is organising the two-day forum, strives to make of the Blue Economy Forum an important destination in maritime activities.

The ITES blue economy strategy and international experiences in this field are key themes topping the agenda of the forum.

The Blue Economy forum of Bizerte closes the Blue Season which started on June 15, a period during which 200 events along the Tunisian coastline from Tabarka to Zarzis were organized.

The Blue Economy Forum, placed under the high patronage of the Tunisian Presidency of the Republic, is held in partnership with the governorate and municipality of Bizerte in addition to the Union for the Mediterranean, the European Union, the French embassy in Tunis and civil society.

The appeal of Bizerte will be revealed at the end of the forum; it will target the Mediterranean countries’ countries.
