Early presidential election: submission of nominations begins August 2

The submission of nominations for the early presidential elections began Friday (8:00 am to 6:00 pm at ISIE Headquarters) and will continue until August 9.

The date of the first round of the presidential election is set for September 15, 2019 at home and will take place on September 13, 14 and 15 abroad.

According to the electoral calendar for the first round of the early presidential election, the preliminary results are expected on September 17 at the latest, while the final results should be proclaimed by the Independent High Authority for the Elections after the end of the remedies in a deadline not exceeding October 21, 2019, only three days before the end of the term of the interim president fixed by the Constitution at 90 days at the latest.

If none of the candidates wins an absolute majority of votes in the first round, a second round will be held within two weeks of the announcement of the final results of the first round.

As a result, the final results of the second round will be proclaimed on December 9, 2019.

Articles 84, 85 and 86 stipulate that the maximum period of the interim presidency expire after 90 days, namely on October 24, 2019, as from the inauguration of Mohamed Ennaceur and his oath-taken before Parliament on July 25.
