The ‘TANIT’ project was launched Friday in Tunis by Leaders International and Museum Lab in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the European Union.
Co-funded by the EU, the TANIT project is an initiative designed to strengthen the development of sustainable tourism in Tunisia. It aims to build the capacity of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) active in the sustainable tourism sector, promoting an inclusive approach that enhances the country’s rich natural and cultural heritage, the European Union official website reports.
At the launch event held at the Ministry of Tourism headquarters, project steering committee members discussed the selection criteria for the 35 beneficiary associations, emphasising the role of CSOs and local communities in implementing sustainable tourism initiatives.
They also stressed the importance of sectoral coordination between public and private players for the success of this project.
Implemented by Leaders International in collaboration with Museum Lab, the TANIT project will stimulate economic development, particularly in inland regions, by promoting sustainable tourism that makes the most of the country’s natural and cultural heritage, thus helping to diversify the tourism offering beyond coastal areas, the same source adds.
The governorates of Jendouba, Kef, Siliana, Béja, Zaghouan, Medenine, Gabes and Tataouine will be the focus of the project’s initiatives, with the aim of boosting their tourism potential and making them more attractive.
