Bangladesh ranks 82nd in Anti Money Laundering Index of 146 countries

Bangladesh has also secured the fourth position among the 10 fastest developing countries in the index

Bangladesh has massively improved in its efforts to counter terrorism financing and money laundering according to a press release published by Bangladesh Bank on Monday.

Citing Basel Anti Money Laundering (AML) Index-2017, the press release said Bangladesh has beaten 28 countries and ranked 82nd among 146 countries.

Bangladesh has also secured the fourth position among the 10 fastest developing countries in the index.

According to the AML’s findings, 10 countries with the highest AML risk are Iran, Afghanistan, Guinea-Bissau, Tajikistan, Laos, Mozambique, Mali, Uganda, Cambodia and Tanzania. The three lowest risk countries are the same as last year – Finland, followed by Lithuania and Estonia. The greatest improvements, since 2016, have been made by Sudan, Taiwan [China], Israel and Bangladesh.

The countries that deteriorated most severely in their scores in 2017 are Jamaica, Tunisia, Hungary, Uzbekistan and Peru, the ranking indicates.
