99 attempts by illegal immigrants to cross the Mediterranean to Italy were thwarted in Tunisia in one week, the Tunisian National Guard said on Monday. The Tunisian coastguard foiled these illegal immigration attempts off the country’s coast and rescued 2,469 illegal immigrants between 28 January and 3 February, the National Guard said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.
